The Vista Alegre porcelain factory, the fulfilment of a dream of 19th century Portuguese visionary, Josι Ferreira Pinto Basto, was founded in 1824, in Νlhavo, Aveiro. Throughout the years, the Vista Alegre brand has always been closely associated with Portugal’s history and cultural life, and has acquired an unparalleled international reputation.

In 2001, the Vista Alegre group merged with the Atlantis Group. Eight years later, the company was purchased by the Visabeira Group, creating one of the largest tableware, giftware and hotelware groups in Europe, currently producing around 57 million pieces a year – in porcelain, crystal, glass, stoneware and earthenware for the tableware, bar, decoration, gift and lighting sectors – exporting its products to over 60 countries.

Among the designers recently associated with the brand are Marcel Wanders, Jaime Hayon, Ross Lovegrove, Sam Baron, Arik Levy, Mendel Heit, Carsten Gollnick, Coline Le Corre, Brunno Jahara, Beatriz Lamanna, Joana Vasconcelos and Pedro Cabrita Reis. In 2019, the brand has already been awarded a prize in the “Excellent Brands – Living” category, and an honorable mention in the “Excellent Brands – Brand Innovation of the Year” category, by the German Brand Awards. In this category (Excellent Brands), the best product brands and companies in an industry are recognized.
