Almost two centuries of creative vitality and mastery in the manufacture of porcelain are the factors that make up the precious heritage of Vista Alegre. A heritage continuously projected towards the future, in terms of reference design, technical innovation and overall quality of its products. Thanks to a unique merging of manual tradition with high technology, Vista Alegre is proud to uninterruptedly present a diverse offer, addressed to a wide and demanding audience, which, just as the brand, is constantly evolving.
The Vista Alegre porcelain factory, the fulfilment of a dream of 19th century Portuguese visionary, Josι Ferreira Pinto Basto, was founded in 1824, in Νlhavo, Aveiro. Throughout the years, the Vista Alegre brand has always been closely associated with Portugal’s history and cultural life, and has acquired an unparalleled international reputation.
In 2001, the Vista Alegre group merged with the Atlantis Group. Eight years later, the company was purchased by the Visabeira Group, creating one of the largest tableware, giftware and hotelware groups in Europe, currently producing around 57 million pieces a year – in porcelain, crystal, glass, stoneware and earthenware for the tableware, bar, decoration, gift and lighting sectors – exporting its products to over 60 countries.
Taking precision, sophistication, innovation and versatility as its essential values, and harmoniously combining tradition and modernity, Vista Alegre is associated with the highest standards of quality and functionality.
Throughout its many years in business, the company has become known for regular cooperation with renowned artists, creating truly unique pieces, reflecting the latest aesthetic trends. A philosophy that has become more marked, following a growing process of globalization and the need to respond to an increasingly demanding and diverse market. Among the designers recently associated with the brand are Marcel Wanders, Jaime Hayon, Ross Lovegrove, Sam Baron, Arik Levy, Mendel Heit, Carsten Gollnick, Coline Le Corre, Brunno Jahara, Beatriz Lamanna, Joana Vasconcelos and Pedro Cabrita Reis. Together with these names are the haute-couture houses of Christian Lacroix Maison and Oscar de la Renta, which have built successful partnerships to develop new porcelain collections. Vista Alegre’s connection to the world of fashion continues to strengthen and, at the end of 2018, a collection with the luxury Mexican brand Piρeda Covalin. was launched.
This philosophy of constant investment in innovation and the promotion of creativity, often challenging the very limits of the material, have earned the brand growing recognition among design experts, reflected in it receiving some of the most prestigious international awards. In 2018, Vista Alegre received three Good Design Awards, a Red Dot Design Award, ten German Design Awards, three Iconic Design Awards and four European Design Awards. In 2019, the brand has already been awarded a prize in the “Excellent Brands – Living” category, and an honorable mention in the “Excellent Brands – Brand Innovation of the Year” category, by the German Brand Awards. In this category (Excellent Brands), the best product brands and companies in an industry are recognized.
The Vista Alegre brand’s success is undoubtedly due to its ability to reinvent itself and to define trends in porcelain, the result of a technical and artistic knowledge, combined with an unquenchable curiosity and passion for the new. Combining the most advanced technology, working on a variety of products in constant evolution, with a priceless heritage of handcraftsmanship that enhances the value of its pieces, the brand has long been in the forefront of this sector.
Vista Alegre’s prestige is also reflected in the regular creation of exclusive pieces for a variety of personalities worldwide, and its tableware sets are used by various embassies, heads of state and royal houses. Synonymous with excellence and unsurpassed mastery, Vista Alegre pieces are exhibited in some of the most respected art institutions around the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
